- The Jersey City Charter School Alliance
Dear Members of the Jersey City Board of Education:
As community members, parents and voters in Jersey City, we ask that the Board of Education support quality public education for all children in Jersey City. I urge you to immediately pass a resolution that supports the petition that will close the loop hole that restricts certain public schools from receiving the funding to which they are entitled.
By law, public charter schools are supposed to receive almost the same amount (90%) of funding that public traditional schools receive. But because of a loop hole in the law, Jersey City public charter schools only receive 50% of the funding of their peers. This funding loop hole actively works against charter schools and denies Jersey City children their right to a quality public education.
We hope that the elected board of education will, unlike the loop hole, work FOR the students in Jersey City public schools, whether they are traditional or charter. I urge you to immediately pass a resolution that supports the petition that will close this loop hole, the petition that will allow charter schools to receive the 90% of funding to which they are ethically entitled.
